Married to a doctor - mother of one son - stepmother to another - we live in a beautiful home nestled at the foothills - The "boys" enjoy golf - my athletic sport is shopping and we can't forget walking our dog, Polo - however, our most precious times are around the kitchen table having a Bible study.
What is this site about? Well, here is what it is not... It is not to influence you to buy real estate. It is not to pressure you into becoming a Christian. It is not a way to manipulate God within the business industry. Simply, it is about sharing. One overlooked facet about real estate involves the personal stresses that people assume when moving from one home to another, and for many, from relocating from one state to another. That is why our family shares personally with those who are trying to connect with this new community. Purely as an option, you are welcome to comb through my husband's journal entries about faith, and hopefully, his personal insights may provide you with some encouragement.
“Spiritual reconstruction for the brokenhearted begins with repentance and ends in redemptive wholeness” (Selley, 2006).

In Colorado Springs, it is easy to run into a Christian within the community. It feels like everyone is a Christian. Colorado Springs is noted for being the Mecca of Christian ministries. Yet, it seems that many who claim the Christian faith speak very commonly about God without having any evidence of fruit. This entry is not about judging others regarding their faith. I defer this responsibility to God. However, I would like to share my experience when I became a “Born-Again Christian.” I was seized by the power of God, which was like having a great affection invade my every being. What makes a man or woman a Christian is neither his or her intellectual acceptance of certain ideas about God nor his or her conformity to certain Christian rules of moral conduct, but rather, it is his or her possession of a certain Spirit and his or her participation in a certain life. “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again” (John 3:3, NIV). Have you forfeited the citizenship of this world for the ambassador position of Christ in heaven?
As New Testament saints, we are to walk in holiness, having the same mindset of Christ. To walk in holiness, we must renew our minds. Jesus Christ said, “They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:16-17, ESV). I simply encourage more believers to read and meditate on the Word.

When studying the law of the Old Testament, its primary objective was to restrain people from sinfulness. As I chart a deeper course with the Lord, I have gained a true realization that sin for the New Testament believer is when one simply steps out of love with God and with his or her fellow man. If we do not walk in love, nothing really counts for anything. “Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law” (Romans 13:8, ESV).

Finances are not exclusively about making the numbers add up correctly or keeping the records nice and neat. There is much more involved. Greed. Poverty. Comfort. Pride. Want. Control. Rebellion. Depression. Laziness. Generational Sin and Habits. Just to mention a few. Personally, I believe that there is a root of sin in each one of us that tries to destroy us from the inside out, especially in the area of financial solvency. I agree with Bob Katz, who is a CPA and has worked with people who struggle in the area of finances and debt accumulation. He said in a article and I quote from him, “What I have learned over the years is that almost every financial problem has a spiritual root to it, and if you don’t first solve the spiritual problem, it is extremely difficult to solve the natural one.” The solution does not come about quickly. It involves intense prayer, attaining the knowledge of truth about your circumstances, identifying those spirits of sin that are against you, and finally, putting this information into practical steps of living. Regardless of how much money you have or do not have, it is imperative to realize that opposing forces of darkness are against you. Cherise and I fully recognize this from seeing this phenomenon among our business clientele and within the construct of our own lives. The voice of the world is trying to draw us away from the will of God.
May the Holy Spirit guide us through this maze of financial confusion and pitfalls. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against rulers, against authorities, against powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12, NIV).

Regardless of our position in the Christian community, none of us has the authority to judge another man. Yes, the spiritual man is to make judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgment. Jesus Christ will eventually judge all. Christians are truly blessed because we have the mind of Christ. We do not have to snarl or judge or carry anger about another Christian who is backsliding. I am not suggesting that we cohabitate or befriend the nature of sin within Christendom. But if we harshly judge others, especially too easily, then we fall too quickly into the mindset of the carnal man, thinking on the same standards of those who live by their flesh. This type of thinking only leads to destructive thoughts and wrongful living. It is much better to think with the mind of Christ, which is basically the mind of the Spirit, which leads us in a sojourn of life and peace. Let’s leave the occupation of judgment to God!

“Leprosy is a disease without pain. No remedy is found because the nerves do not work. Lepers lose their fingers and toes in accidents because they cannot feel any pain…When the church does not feel the pain with those that are a part of them, the church’s nerves also become dead. Then the church loses parts of its body. It loses power to touch souls. It loses credibility before the world. On the other side, the suffering church gives the whole church strength to fight for Christ. Suffering makes the soul cry out and look for help, to draw strength from the source of help – Jesus Christ” (unknown).

Life is not necessarily easier for the Christian, yet it will be rewarding…”In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” (2 Timothy 3:12, NIV).

I once had difficulty with Paul’s use of the word “perfection” in his letter to the Corinthians. “…our prayer is for your perfection” (2 Corinthians 13:9, NIV). Knowing that we cannot attain perfection while on this earth, then why would Paul tell us to aim for something that cannot be attained? I see this often in regards to faith, whereby the bar is set too high for one to fit into the modern-day Christian culture. After studying Paul’s use of the word perfection, a more proper term that could be used would be “restoration” or “made complete.” From this reference, we know that Jesus Christ fully completes us and by His grace we do not have to jump through manmade hoops of busy faith. As I continue to grow in Him, I am humbled by the impact and power of His grace, realizing that I must grow closer in Him in order to act accordingly in goods works for His glory. Thank goodness that His perfect sacrifice relieves me from religious good works and pole vault jumping…

Around 1:30 am this morning, Kristofer, our son who is fourteen years old, returned from a Jamaican missions trip. His experience prompted a few good lessons about thankfulness and the importance of hard work. Kris already has a heart for the less fortunate…And when working with one of the kids who live in complete poverty, he freely gave up his new tennis shoes and Bible to him. Kris said to me, “Dad, it is time for me to really grow up in my faith.”

For the Christian community, we should be aware that apostasy prevails among a large population of professed Christian believers, meaning that one tends to waver in his or her faith. But when digging deeper about apostasy, the consequences are even greater than just wavering. It becomes a decision to reject the firstborn birthrights of our new covenant in Jesus Christ that are bestowed upon us as Christians. Think of it this way…When a son is born into a kingly family, he automatically inherits the birthrights and inheritance as an heir. But that does not mean that he will necessarily enjoy all of the fruits of privilege, especially if he chooses to mistreat or waver in his responsibility as a son of the king. The same applies to our Christian heritage of faith. If we waver in our faith on this earth, then we give up the covenant blessings of peace and holiness (God’s gifts) in exchange for something that opposes faith – usually something of this world. God is calling us, as saints, to live out our lives of faith with holiness, keeping our hope anchored to the reality of our true home, which is in heaven.

When God created a new covenant through His son Jesus Christ, He did so knowing that He made a “new” way for us to have direct access to Him, and secondly, we now live because we are indissolubly bound up with the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. “’This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,’ and then he adds, ‘I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more’” (Hebrews 10:16-17, ESV). This cornerstone of faith is where I must place my confidence while trekking in the territory of the unknown. “…but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him” (Hebrews 10:38, ESV).

In order for one to achieve any measure of growth with his or her faith in God, there must be a renewal of the mind that takes place. The prophet Isaiah captures this beautifully, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland” (Isaiah 43:18-19, NIV). Who else but God can create a river in the desert? So during this season of change, I must hold tightly on to the truth that God is working on my behalf.

Over this past month, I have personally undergone a “wilderness” walk of faith. It has been a time of great physical suffering as I have endured the passing of two kidney stones. But equally challenging for me involves the fact that God continues to prepare me for an upcoming season of change. Presently, I am unable to read the exactness of this blueprint because it takes pure faith to move forward. “And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him” (Hebrews 11:6, ESV). As I draw nearer I sense the fear of the Lord. Even though the voice of God seems quiet, there is a palpable reality that I will be participating in something entirely different that is according to His will. The unknown can be quite frightening, especially when your health is spinning out of control. Yet, isn’t through suffering that God gets our full attention about our total need for Him? The courage to move forward in faith is a message about embracing the Word of God, accepting the challenge and committing to the change…
